On Wednesday 2 June, the second TTA-NZ Tourism Quiz was held at Nelson College. This saw four teams of Tourism students from three schools across the Top of the South compete in a fun general
knowledge Tourism quiz. The quiz is organised nationally by the Tourism Teachers Association of
New Zealand, with the same quiz being held in five other regions across Aotearoa. The aim of the
event was to raise the profile of the subject, bring schools together, provide a fun experience for
students and develop their knowledge of many facets of the industry.
It was a great night and we were very grateful of the generous support provided by our sponsors.
Each student was given a goodie bag featuring Proper Crisps, Pic’s peanut butter, chia drinks, lip
balm and a two-year membership from YHA New Zealand. The winning team took out the grand
prize of a free ride on the Sky Wire at Cable Bay Adventure Park.
We had teams competing from Nelson College, Nayland College and Motueka High School. The
triumphant team on the night were the Trophy Wives from Motueka!
It was awesome to have the support of Jason McKay from House of Travel and Royce Locke from
YHA Nelson on the night, as well as Tracee Neilson and the team from the Nelson Regional
Development Agency who pulled together most of the generous goodies for the students.
While at times the answers to some of the questions were creative and entertaining, all those
involved had a good time and definitely learned something!
